5 Ways To Prep Your Skin For The Best Makeup Ever!

Experts unanimously agree, perfect makeup application is all about the base. So, if your prep ain’t right, your base ain’t right, either.

Today, we’re listing 5 ways to prep your skin for the best makeup ever. These tricks are often used by makeup artists, especially for brides and celebrities. Now, you’re in on the secret too.

exfoliate

1. Exfoliate

Say no to chemical exfoliators on the day of a big event. Avoid all products with AHAs or BHAs (lactic acid, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, etc.). Instead, opt for a homemade or purchased physical scrub. Whether you like to keep it simple with lime and sugar, or you like using a fancy apricot exfoliant, just scrub away! Of course, not too harsh, because redness doesn’t sit well under makeup.

The scrub will slough away dead cells to ready your skin for perfect application.

ice

2. Ice

Before you begin moisturising and priming, take a cube of ice and run it all over your face. Why, you ask? The cold will close all your pores better than any pore cream can. This makes sure your makeup doesn’t seep into your pores and that it lasts longer, through the day or night.

sheet mask

3. Masking

Love those hydrating sheet masks? Now’s the time! Masking isn’t just reserved for a night in. Apply one 30 minutes before makeup and you’ll see the difference! Whether it’s an under eye patch, lip mask, sheet mask, or collagen mask… use one or all of them at the same time. Once you’re done, wash your face and continue with your regular skincare routine if you have oily skin. If not, just dab away the excess product and start priming for makeup.

layering

4. Layering

Once you’ve cleansed and toned your face, it’s time to layer on your best serums and moisturisers. Use targeted serums first (e.g a Vitamin C serum), then moisturisers (both face and under eye), and next, more than one primer. Layering is the key to great skin! If you have excess product leftover, use a tissue to dab away excess product. Once again, don’t use products with peeling agents – AHAs or BHAs. And if you have oily skin, use products that cater to your skin.

face mist

5. Mist

Prepping mist, rose water, or thermal water, you can use a water spray on your face right before you apply primer. It will wake your skin up and have you glowing all day!
