5 Celeb-Approved DIY Hair Masks You Need To Try RN!

Our favourite female celebrities are no strangers to a little DIY. While they have access to the best of luxe products, nothing can replace the natural, effective, and budget-friendly quality of a good DIY.

The ladies are famous for their gorgeous tresses, so we did a little research and figured out their favourite DIY recipes for beautiful hair. These celebrity DIY hair masks are great for scalp cleansing, hair growth, and a surge of moisture!

Pods

1. Sonam Kapoor

Sonam is pretty versatile with her hair and makeup looks. Whether it’s short hair in Neerja or beautiful, princess-like tresses in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, here’s what she claims is the secret to her awesome hair: Mix almond oil, shikhakai, and coconut oil for an overnight hair treatment that will leave your hair feeling supple and smooth, post shower.

Avocado Oil

2. Katrina Kaif

Katrina is also a big believer in oiling your hair with almond, coconut, olive, or other such natural oils. Every few weeks, she uses the Kiehl’s Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Reparative Hair Pack. She leaves this on for a couple of hours as a pre-shower routine. If you want to DIY an equally effective hair pack, try mixing 2 tbsp olive oil, 1/4 lemon, and 2 tbsp avocado oil together and applying it on your hair. You can even clean your scalp with this. Leave it on for 30 minutes to an hour before shampoo-ing as usual. If you put too much lime / lemon or leave it on for too long, the citric nature of lemon may bleach your hair.

#HauteTip: You can make your own avocado oil at home by heating avocado puree on medium heat, till it darkens. Then strain the oil from this mixture. You can also purchase avocado oil at certain supermarkets or online.

Honey

3. Kourtney Kardashian

Kourtney is a major advocate of avocado and Manuka honey. If you haven’t heard of Manuka honey, it’s basically an organic honey, made by bees that pollinate the Manuka bush in New Zealand. It is said to be extremely beneficial to consume and apply on hair or skin. While it is available at select, imported food retailers in India, it may be super pricey! So, you can always use regular, organic honey.

Kourt shared the recipe on her app, of an avocado “smoothie” that she loves applying to her hair. So, literally like a smoothie, mix in 1/2 an avocado, about 2 tbsp of manuka honey, half a lemon, and 2 to 3 tbsp of olive oil in a blender. Then, apply to your hair and leave it on for an hour with a hair wrap or shower cap.

Coconut Milk

4. Kendall Jenner

Kourt’s sister Kendall also loves avocado! Wow, it truly is a superfood and a super beauty ingredient, right? Supermodel, Kendall Jenner, mashes a banana, with 1/2 an avocado, and mixes it up with a few tbsp of virgin, cold-pressed coconut oil. Let that seep in overnight and voila!

Yoghurt

5. Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra did a cute little video with VOGUE last year, where she demonstrated a few desi DIYs, passed down to her by her mother. Her hair solution to all tress-related woes? Mix 2 tbsp of yoghurt, with 1 tbsp of honey, and one egg. Whisk it all together and smooth it onto your hair.
