World Theatre Day: From Haider To Oh My God, 7 Films Based On Famous Plays!
Angoor, a film that was released more than 40 years back was based on the famous play by Shakespeare titled The Comedy Of Errors. It featured famous actors like Deven Verma and Sanjeev Kumar.
Most of you might not know that Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal’s film Oh My God was also based on a Gujarati play Kanji Virudh Kanji,
Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed Saawariya, a debut film for Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor was also based on a short story, White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
The critically acclaimed film Omkara which had a range of talented casts like Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan and Vivek Oberoi among others was inspired by Shakespeare’s play Othello.
The mind-blowing film Haider directed by Vishal Bhardwaj was another film inspired by Shakespeare's plays and a famous one titled Hamlet.
Shakespeare’s Macbeth became the inspiration for Vishal Bhardwaj’s other directorial venture, Maqbool. It features Irfan Khan and Tabu in lead roles.
Another Gujarati play Andhalo Pato inspired the storyline of Amitabh Bachchan’s Aankhen.
